FSC Chairman presides over expanded meeting on household debt managementAug 14, 2026

Chairman Lee Eog-weon of the Financial Services Commission presided over an expanded meeting on household debt management with officials from related ministries, organizations, and financial industries participating on August 14. At the meeting, officials went over recent trends in household loans and discussed ways to effectively implement the government's housing finance measures announced a day before with aims to shore up the supply of housing and boost the provision of housing finance support for young adults. As the measures necessitate an upward adjustment of the previously set growth target for this year, FSC Chairman Lee said that financial companies should work to make sure that their freed up lending capacity is directed toward non-speculative homebuyers and renters in the form of relocation loans and so on for particular purposes that fit specific categories under the newly announced measures. In this regard, Chairman Lee said that it is critical to make sure that the freed up lending capacity in the financial sector is not viewed as an easing of loan regulations or household loan management.
