[Request for Explanation and Correction of Financial Times Article Titled “Pressure on for Hynix, Micron Deal.”]

The Financial Times article dated 12/11/01 and titled “Pressure on for Hynix, Micron Deal” stated that:

- The FSC is quoted as saying “the FSC is very positive about the talks because if Hynix’s bad debt had to be written off, a couple of banks might have to be wiped out. It would be a severe shock to the financial system.”

- “The least we can expect is some sort of strategic alliance so they can share research and development costs.”

These statements are misquoted; therefore, the following Financial Times’ statement does not have any factual basis:

“Failure by Hynix Semi-conductor and Micron Technology, the memory chipmakers, to forge an alliance could lead to a collapse of several South Korean banks, according to the country’s financial watchdog…”

Therefore, we would like to request a correction of this article.
